PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy says the string of Premier League clubs interested in Cody Gakpo are not alone, with other European giants following the in-form winger.

The 23-year-old has had a stunning start to the season, scoring nine goals in 10 Eredivisie games to date and a further three in three games in the Europa League.

This comes after he was heavily linked in the summer with a move to Manchester United, which fell through, as well as a move to Southampton or Leeds following interest from both.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have also all been linked with the young PSV captain, but Van Nistelrooy confirms other superpowers are interested, who could face a huge transfer battle in the summer.

“It’s not just Premier League clubs that are after him,” Van Nistelrooy told a Gakpo press conference. “Of course, with the quality he’s showing in the form he’s been in for the last three or four months; it has been exceptional.

“His stats, his assists and goals in which he was involved, naturally attract the attention of the best clubs in European football.

“The good thing about him, his age, he is only 23 years old, he is fully concentrating on his career, becoming a better player, captaining PSV and giving the club the best he can.

“He is concentrating on a great World Cup, where he also plays matches for the [Netherlands] national team under [Louis] van Gaal.

“For him, he is at a fantastic moment and he wants to continue that. When the time comes, he will make decisions.’

Gakpo will have a great stage to showcase his skills to his Premier League candidates on Thursday evening, when PSV travel to London to face Arsenal in the Europa League.
