A report of what sounded like a gunshot near an elementary school in eastern San Diego County led to a brief campus lockdown on Friday.
Possible gunfire near Shadow Hills Elementary School on Harbison Canyon Road in Alpine was reported shortly after 10 a.m., according to the county Sheriff’s Department.
“As a matter of great caution, school personnel immediately instituted a campus-wide lockdown,” sheriff’s Captain Michael Rand said. “Delegates searched (the school), as well as the adjacent Creekside Early Learning Center. They could not find any evidence of a shooting.”
Authorities lifted the lockdown just before 11 a.m., Rand said.
