‘My Boyfriend Said He Doesn’t Like This Dress’: The Wife’s Marriage Dilemma

Weddings aren’t everything black tie affairs nowadays† Some are more formal than others, so it can be difficult to decide what to wear to some weddings.

This is exactly the dilemma a woman found herself in before an upcoming wedding. She has a beautiful dress she wants to buy something for the event, but her boyfriend isn’t sure if it’s appropriate.

So went to Mumsnet to ask others for their advice† She shared a photo of the dress in question, captioned the post, “Is this dress inappropriate for a wedding?”

“My boyfriend said he doesn’t think this dress is suitable for a wedding because it’s red? Is this new to me?” she wrote. “I’ve worn the last two weddings we’ve been to [sic] red and he said nothing. So I just wonder what people’s thoughts are. Does this fit?”

The dress is a ‘Red Bardot Fill Sleeve Draped Dress’ sold at Pretty Little Things. It is currently on sale and comes in a variety of colors.

“I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding because of the style rather than the color. It’s too revealing and eye-catching so it could distract the bride’s attention,” commented one reader.

Another agreed.

“I think the color is the only thing you don’t have to worry about with this dress,” they said.

“I wouldn’t wear that to a wedding,” said another.

Another commented, “Maybe he’s trying to be polite by saying the color is the problem. It kind of looks like a flamenco costume.”

“The color is fine, I’m not sure about the style. If the wedding is in a religious location, I personally wouldn’t reveal that much skin,” added another.

One person wrote, “Red is fun, but that dress isn’t. Well, it’s fun, but it gives off the cruise ship lounge singer vibes.”

“I don’t think that dress in any color would be appropriate for a wedding. Very revealing, very detailed (could compete with bridesmaids). Have you bought it yet?” asked another.
