Manly releases updated, less offensive jersey pride

NRL team the Manly Sea Eagles say it has modified its proud round jersey and apologizes for the previous version which some have described as offensive and distasteful.

A person associated with the club said the original shirt did not reflect his values, or those of his community.

“It’s distasteful. I don’t want to shove stuff like this in my face. It’s not appropriate – especially if there are children around, I don’t think it’s appropriate to send this kind of message.

“If people want to do these things in private, I think that’s up to them. But I don’t think we should openly celebrate or promote this kind of lifestyle.”

Some at the club are disappointed with the turnaround and say players are less likely to come out as gambling addicts.
