Man rushed to hospital after being punched in the head with wine bottle in Christie Pits

A man was seriously injured on Wednesday evening after being struck on the head with a wine bottle during an altercation in the city’s Christie Pits neighborhood on Wednesday evening.

According to police, it happened around 8:30 p.m. near Bloor Street West and Carling Avenue, east of Ossington Avenue.

“There were two people involved who we think know each other and a fight took place,” Duty Insp said. Jeff Bangild. “The victim was hit on the head with a wine bottle. That injury caused a significant amount of blood loss.”

The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, Bangild said.

Officers are searching the area for the suspect and are scouring the area for information. No description has been released.

“It’s not necessarily a random attack. It’s these two individuals who had an argument and decided to take it out on the street themselves,” Bangild said.

He added that the area was busy at the time and is calling on anyone who may have witnessed the attack to come forward and contact police.
