Port Adelaide will be unleashing the son of a gun for his debut in another mini-final against Fremantle as it looks set to keep its small hopes of the final alive.

The Dockers (10-4, 122.6%) passed a serious reality check from Carlton last weekend but have an ideal chance to solidify their top four chances as Michael Walters and the forgotten Nathan Wilson return to the side.

The Power (7-7, 105.1%), who has named Jase Burgoyne – the son of premiership player Peter Burgoyne – to make his debut, must keep winning to give himself the best chance of sneaking into the top eight.

There were no late changes for Fremantle, with Bailey Banfield as the starting sub.

The Power initially made no late changes, but Xavier Duursma was pulled out with a quad issue less than an hour before the first bounce and replaced by Miles Bergman. Steven Motlop was named starting medical sub.

Port got off to the ideal start, with Mitch Georgiades recovering from a heavy hit to mark and kick the first goal of the game. When Ryan Burton intercepted a Dockers kick and added a second goal, the crowd at Optus Stadium was silenced.

The Power then launched a breathtaking passage from coast to coast, moving the ball down the wing to set up Georgiades, who scored his second goal.

“Great ball movement through Port Adelaide. They’re on fire early on,” said Fox Footy commentator Adam Papalia.

Dockers legend Matthew Pavlich added: “Massive statement from Port Adelaide.”

The Dockers then went on to win the next clearance, which, via Matt Taberner, netted their first goal of the game.

James Aish then thanked his lucky stars for the ARC, who quashed the on-field referee’s call from a touched behind and awarded the Dockers their second goal.
