Lekki Deep Sea port welcomes first ship

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.), congratulated the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Nigerian Ports Authority on the successful berth of the first vessel in the Lekki Deep Sea port.

The vessel, ZHEN HUA 28, provided three Ship to Shores and 10 Rubber Tire Gantries cranes that will help evacuate cargoes from ships to shore.

The president expressed his feelings in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Saturday.

He also congratulated all stakeholders in the maritime sector on the achievement.

Buhari recalled that his approval of four new seaports in the country, including the Lekki Deep Sea port, depended on the growth of the economy.

According to him, the decision also aimed at creating huge jobs, influx of foreign investment and trade facilitation.

He praised the staff and management in the country’s maritime sector who worked around the clock to get the Lekki Deep Sea port operational before the end of the year.

The president assured them of his commitment to support investment in these new assets.

According to Buhari, the country’s maritime and aquatic resources are critical to the livelihoods of Nigerians and the government will make every effort to exploit the sector’s potential successfully.
