It resembles Paris Jackson and Janet Jackson have left some tension between them in the past. The niece and aunt duo posed for a photo Janet shared on her Instagram feed on Oct. 7, and Janet smiled broadly during the family reunion. “So good to catch up with my beautiful niece @parisjackson,” she captioned the photo.
They both sat on an animal print couch at a crowded Paris Fashion Week event. Janet, 56, wore a white button-down and dark gray blazer paired with a dark gray tie and white pocket square for the reunion, while Paris, 24, wore a sexy nude slip dress with lace details and thigh-high boots. She had parted her dirty blond hair in the middle and curled it slightly, while her aunt wore a towering updo adorned with a red, white, and blue hair ribbon.
The late middle child Michael Jackson and his younger sister found themselves in years of feuding rumors after his sudden death in 2009, and their lack of public outings together only furthered them. They are said to have fought several times over the years, including during a semi-public instance for Paris and her two brothers’ childhood home in Calabasas, California in 2012. According to the Daily mailJanet tried to ambush the family home over a problem over Michael’s will and tried to take Paris’ phone from her hand. The publication also reported that the police had been called because of the nuisance. The family has not spoken publicly about the case.
Then, in 2018, Paris was seemingly uninvited to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, where Janet received the Billboard Icon Award and performed a medley of her career hits. The up-and-coming singer addressed the blunt on her Instagram account at the time. “None of my mgmt contacted me about attending billboards or about the prize, and none of my family did either. I had absolutely no idea until you spammed with hate,” she wrote on her Instagram Story, per Peoplethe day after her brother, Prince Jacksonwas seen supporting Janet during the event without her.
She also seemed to be dealing with the years of arguing rumors once and for all. “As wonderful and so s-ty as things can be, it’s none other than ours. I understand that some of you feel some kind of connectedness or need to be separate (sic) from our lives as you watched us grow up,” she wrote in an additional message to fans. “However, I handle my situation exactly as my father did. And I’m glad I can keep it that way. I will always have love and respect for my family. ALWAYS.”
She confirmed her position by adding: “Every family has its moments of trauma, heartbreak, separation, love, unity, tribe, pain, everything. EVERY FAMILY. My family, in particular, and quite a few others… well, our drama is broadcast worldwide through the media. But that doesn’t mean our family problems are different from yours. Ours was just made public.”
Since then, Paris has been in the limelight for her standout fashion choices and burgeoning music career. She even sparked controversy recently after revealing her nipple piercings via a sheer lace shirt she wore earlier this week. In response to the backlash she had to endure, she created an Instagram reel with a sound that would emanate from her nipples. “We can’t escape, we can’t get out. Mama?” said the sound as Paris marveled at her nipples talking to her. She also added caption to the video that read: “My nipple piercing wanted to show up again after everyone got so mad last time.”
