Italian Meloni to President: I’m Ready to Become Prime Minister

Giorgia Meloni, head of the Brothers of Italy nationalist party, told Sergio Mattarella Friday (Oct. 21) that she was ready to take on the role and could quickly form a new government, despite the tumult within her right-wing coalition. The president is expected to call her back to his office later in the day to formally ask her to become prime minister, and the new cabinet is likely to be sworn in over the weekend.
