Animal believed to be minke whale spotted in the French river Seine

According to local authorities, a cetacean that could be a ten-meter-long minke whale has been spotted in the French Seine near the English Channel.

The animal’s appearance on Thursday came just a month after a terminally ill orca died in the same river.

“This is unprecedented,” said Delphine Eloi, the head of the GECC Mammal Research Institute.

This was after her team confirmed reports shared on social media that the animal could be circulating in the freshwater area of the Normandy Bridge near Le Havre.

Ms Eloi added that while whales were not uncommon in the English Channel, it was the first time a mammal of that species had been spotted in the River Seine.
