AFL / Aussie Rules Football Training: BUILD PLAYER ANTICIPATION

Anticipation is arguably the most underrated part of football, mainly because it seems hard to quantify, but when it’s not displayed, you can definitely notice it.

Last weekend saw great individual anticipation from Fremantle’s Michael Frederick to stay alert to the umpire’s call(s) and rush in to smother the set shot of Noah Balta who would almost certainly have won the game for the Tigers with some form of score.

We also saw a poor team expectation from Essendon who seemed to think there was only one possible outcome from Harry Jones’ set and their failure to defend a potential kick-in lost them definitively.
